Why Use Low Voltage

Why Install Low Voltage Landscape Lighting?

A well-designed low voltage landscape lighting system comprised of professional grade brass or copper fixtures, stainless steel transformer, and proper wiring and direct burial slicing techniques is truly the best option for outdoor lighting.

Why do some people say line voltage is better–In the past, low voltage lighting had gotten a bad rap due to the kits you can buy from big box stores. The light fixtures in stores are cast aluminum with no protection from water intrusion on the splices causing corrosion and system failure. People were equating low voltage lighting with these store kits.

Professional lighting firms such as NY Landscape Lighting LLC use materials and techniques that far exceed anything found in these stores. In fact professional grade low voltage lighting is better for your property for a number of reasons.

Greener Systems

12 and 24 volt Low voltage lighting consumes about 1/3 the electricity compared to high voltage systems and is far less expensive to install with little to no disruption of lawn and landscaping. A 35 or 50 watt bulb can replicate what a 75-90 watt line voltage lamp can do. We now offer LED lamp options that use even less energy than line voltage.
No deep trenching is needed so your lawn will look virtually the same after we leave.

Security

High voltage floodlights leave dark shadows and unseen areas around a property. A better choice is strategically placed low voltage lights that provide low levels of even illumination. It has been proven that lighting the landscape and home deters intruders.

Safety

Low Voltage lighting is the ideal choice for illuminating walkways and entrance ways. This ensures that residents and visitors can safely navigate around the property while also highlighting smaller plantings and hardscaping. Line Voltage path lights tend to have open sides creating a glaring effect from the lamp. Remember you want to see the effect not the source.

Usability

Illuminating the private areas of a property allows the evening enjoyment of decks, sitting areas, and recreational spaces. We offer remote controls, indoor switching controls, and motion sensors.

Beauty

Low voltage lighting accentuates the shapes and textures of a landscape and its structures. Line voltage lighting uses basically one type of lamp (flood lights) that flattens the look of the landscape. Low voltage lighting uses a variety of lamp beam spreads and wattages giving us better control of the light. Lighting designers not only paint pictures with light, they create dramatic scenes that give the viewer a dynamic experience of the property. You wouldn’t paint the Mona Lisa with a paint roller; you would paint with smaller brushes emphasizing every detail.
