For this project we are using path lighting to safely guide the homeowner and guests down the walkway and steps. These path fixtures also highlight the smaller plantings and stonework along the walk. You can also see some uplighting on the larger trees near the pool area. Uplighting is used to create a dramatic effect and highlights the shape, color and texture of the tree.
In this photo you can see the uplighting on some of the trees and outdoor fireplace bordering the pool area. Path/area light fixtures are used to light the patio hardscaping.

For this project we used a wall washing technique to graze the home with soft light highlighting the color and texture of the brick work. The columns are lit with slighty brighter lamps guiding the viewing eye to the front door. The six plum trees along each side of the driveway were up lit using spotlights highlighting their shape, color and texture. This picture was taken in winter and you can see the nice effect you get when the trees are leafless.
Moonlights mounted in the canopy of the nearby tree, cast a soft light onto the patio. While enabling use of this outdoor kitchen and patio, the light is not glaring to the eye.

Fixtures
Image 1: This is what lighting designers refer to as a bullet spotlight. This brass fixture is used for uplighting structures and trees. This type of fixture is adjustable and can adapt to growing trees and plantings.
Image 2: Well lights or in ground lights are used in turf areas as they are flush to the ground and can easily be worked around for lawn maintenance.
Image 3: The endeavor from Unique Lighting is a nice fixture to light a BBQ area from behind. This fixture also works well a an area/path light for larger open areas. The endeavor also comes with the option of a tiki torch above the actual lamp.
Image 4: This fixture is used to mount on deck railings and steps.
